This project explores a re-imagining of the Carolina Hurricanes logo and brand marks.
The goal of this project was to explore both simplifying the primary logo, as well as incorporating existing elements into a modernized presentation from the original developed in 1996.
The first two marks shown above preserve the hurricane's "cyclone" from the existing mark, while combining all of the logo's elements into a single stylized "C". A nod to the Hurricane's previous identity, the Hartford Whalers, can be seen with the inclusion of a hidden "H" in the negative space of the "C".
Additionally, a block-lettered version of the logo contains the markings of a hurricane warning flag within the body of the "C", with lines representing hurricane-force winds flowing through the flag. Again, the "H" in the negative space is present, although more prominent.
